mobileemailmarketingIs email marketing a large portion of your marketing strategy for your business? Have you considered whether or not your audience opens your emails on a mobile device?  Cause the chances are, they do. Every goober and their DOG has a mobile device these days (and sometimes more than one) and as you probably know from doing so yourself, they ARE INCREASINGLY USING SAID MOBILE DEVICES TO READ THEIR EMAILS.

Yet many business owners and marketers overlook optimizing both their emails and their website for mobile.  It’s utterly crazy! Totes bananas even. This oversight can lead to failure in most email marketing campaigns.  Statistics from Reachmail show that over 40% of all emails are now opened on mobile devices.  That shows that if you are not optimizing properly for mobile that you could be losing conversions and sales from over 40% of your customers. That’s a fair chunk of coin right there.

Reachmail has compiled 7 common ways that business owners can run an unsuccessful email marketing campaign in the very pretty infographic below.  And I’ve gone to exceptional trouble to highlight some of the key takeaways, just in case you prefer text to pretty pictures:

  • Email optimization for mobile is a key component for any mobile optimization strategy.  If your site is not optimized for mobile, then any conversions you might get as a result of your mobile email marketing won’t be much help.  A lack of an integrated strategy will not only lose conversions, but also lose money and customers.
  • 75% of mobile users in the U.S. use their phones for sending and receiving emails.
  • 40% of all email marketing campaigns are opened on mobile devices.
  • 4 in 5 mobile users will quickly move on to another  website if they website they are on is not mobile-friendly.
  • Only 3.3% of users will view an individual email on more than one device.  This shows how important it is to engage your customer, since most businesses only get one shot to do so.
  • Optimize for standard Smartphone width of 360-480 pixels.
  • 23.6% of all emails are opened within 1 hour of sending.
  • The highest time for mobile engagement is between 10A.M.-Noon. Mobile engagement picks back up again between 4-6P.M.
  • Segmentation by demographics is cited as the #1 most effective method of mobile email marketing.

What does this all mean? It means you should not only optimize your emails for mobile, but make sure that your website is fully optimized for mobile as well. There are few guarantees in life, but you can bet your knickers that doing this will increase your conversions and sales via your email campaigns. YES, YOUR KNICKERS.

Do you optimize your email campaigns and website for mobile? And if so, have you noticed a markable difference in your email campaign results?
