Design vs customer experience: why pretty isn’t always practical

Have you hired a designer to create your website? You may have made a HUGE mistake. Designers can be good for some stuff (well, some of them), but most of them are not experts in user experience. The end result being that they design websites with the key objective being that they look pretty and on-brand. This is kinda important, but what is MORE important is that your customers and visitors find your site easy to navigate and know what they are meant to be doing. Sometimes you have to make trade-offs with design to make sure you’re making life easy for your audience. Pretty isn’t always practical. And here’s some rambling, some ranting and some useful examples of when that may be the case. But mostly rambling.
